I had a surreal moment in the process of writing my first book, The Power of Work. As inconsequential as that moment seemed, it birthed this project and the advocacy that will follow it. I was engaging with this phenomenal young man because I wanted him to feature as illustrator for my first book. As soon as I mentioned that I was writing a book, he didn’t wait to hear the focal area or title, he just blurted out ‘About Time’. I was pleasantly surprised, and he knew it, so he expounded on his thoughts and here is what he said, “You all complain about young people in the workplace, but no one tells their stories”. It was my second opportunity to be shocked in the space of a few minutes and that expressed itself in laughter, but oh boy did I get his point! He had expected me to tell my story and has had this expectation for a while apparently.

By extrapolation, I figured that a lot of young people want to hear our stories, mostly experience led stories not fables. I want to hear the stories of others too so I can learn from them also. This is the reason why this blog was birth, for old and young alike to share their tales so that it serves as building blocks for many.
I do realize that a lot of books are born of experiences, the process of writing one is somewhat tedious and takes a bit of time too. It is this time that a lot of people cannot afford. So if you cannot write a book, you can tell a story, we can transcribe and edit without losing your voice in the process too.
A group blog as this, is the approach which has the advantage of ensuring those experiences are not lost, whether recently or from our childhood, that they yield tales which become part of supporting the future of others known and unknown and in doing this, we leave in bite sizes a legacy for the world.
I sincerely hope that this will become the world’s largest story book, endless pages, that each and every day people will find wisdom in short bursts, stories that are real to read. These stories featuring in their lives journey and so it begins. The Un-booked; because everyone has a story.
Nice! Will love to stumble on more of your work
